Rachel Carson is known as the godmother of modern day environmentalism. Her novel "Silent Spring" outlined the dangers that came with the chemical revolution and singlehandedly made the case for the cessation of DDT. Her writings inspired a generation to push for legislation for clean air and clean water and pressure congress and the Nixon administration to form the EPA.
